A&S—Women’s Studies
The Women’s Studies Program offers graduate certificates at both the master’s and doctoral levels. The interdisciplinary curriculum draws upon faculty expertise in the arts, humanities, and sciences; and in business, law, library and information science, nursing, medicine, public and international affairs, public health, and social work. The program provides opportunities for students who wish to focus their study on women, gender, and sexuality or who wish to add these areas as a subspecialty.

Admissions
Interested students should make an appointment with the Director of Women’s Studies.
No initial financial aid is available through Women’s Studies. Graduate students who enroll in the program may apply for financial aid through a home department. Advanced graduate students enrolled in the Women’s Studies program may apply for one of two annual Teaching Fellowships in Women’s Studies.
The master’s-level certificate requires 12 credits as detailed below:
- At least one course must be outside the candidate’s major discipline, typically
- WOMNST 2242: Feminist Theory
- At least two courses in one field
- No more than 1 course may be directed study
The doctoral-level certificate requires 18 credits as detailed below:
- At least two courses must be outside the candidate’s major discipline, typically
- One of which is WOMNST 2242: Feminist Theory
- At least three courses in one field
- No more than 2 courses may be directed study
All candidates for graduate certificates must maintain a 3.00 average in courses for the certificate and submit a research paper to be read by 2 faculty affiliated with Women’s Studies. Students should notify the program director of their intention to graduate at the beginning of their final term.
